چکیده

We report on the generation of photon pairs in the 1550-nm band suitable for longdistance fiber-optic quantum key distribution. The photon pairs were generated in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide with a high conversion-efficiency. Using a pulsed semiconductor laser with a pulse rate of 800 kHz and a maximum average pump power of 50 μW, we obtained a coincidence rate of 600 s−1. Our measurements are in agreement with a Poissonian photon-pair distribution, as is expected from a comparison of the coherence time of the pump and of the detected photons. An average of 0.9 photon pairs per pulse was obtained.

Observation of 99% pump depletion in single-pass second-harmonic generation in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide.

We report 99% pump depletion in single-pass second-harmonic generation. Quasi-cw pulses at 1550 nm were frequency doubled in an annealed proton-exchanged waveguide formed in periodically poled lithium niobate. Measurements of pump depletion and second-harmonic generation agree with results from numerical integration of the coupled-mode equations that describe the process.

Periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide sum-frequency generator for efficient single-photon detection at communication wavelengths.

We present a device to facilitate single-photon detection at communication wavelengths based on continuous-wave sum-frequency generation with an upconversion efficiency exceeding 90%. Sum-frequency generation in a periodically poled lithium niobate waveguide is used to upconvert signal photons to the near infrared, where detection can be performed efficiently by use of silicon avalanche photodi...

Spectral compression of single-photon-level laser pulse

We experimentally demonstrate that the bandwidth of single photons laser pulse is compressed by a factor of 58 in a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide chip. A positively chirped single photons laser pulse and a negatively chirped classical laser pulse are employed to produce a narrowband single photon pulse with new frequency through sum-frequency generation. In our experiment,...

A Frequency-nondegenerate Entanglement Source Using Periodically-poled Lithium Niobate

We demonstrate efficient generation of highly nondegenerate photon pairs with a type-I phase-matched, periodically-poled lithium niobate parametric downconverter. The signal photons at 800 nm and the idler photons at 1600 nm were generated in a collinear-propagation configuration with an inferred pair generation rate of 1.4×107/s/mW of pump power. Detection of a signal photon triggered a thermo...

Upconversion detection near 2 μm at the single photon level.

We have demonstrated upconversion detection at the single photon level in the 2 μm spectral window using a pump wavelength near 1550 nm, a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide, and a volume Bragg grating (VBG) to reduce noise. We achieve a system photon detection efficiency of 10%, with a noise count rate of 24,500 counts per second, competitive with other 2 μm single photon dete...
